You can use custom breakdowns to analyze performance by:
- Audience segments
- Funnel stages
- Campaign types
- Product lines
Any other logic embedded in your naming
Two Ways to Create Custom Breakdowns
Option 1: Build Directly from a Report
- Go to any report and click Group by
- Select Create custom breakdown (first item on the list)
- This opens the Group Builder
If you’re on a Pro plan, Superads will scan your naming conventions and suggest custom breakdowns for you! These suggestions come from AI models analyzing patterns in your:
- Campaign names
- Ad set names
- Ad names
You can:
- Use the suggested groups directly
- Modify them
- Build your own from scratch
To create a breakdown manually:
- Name your group (e.g. “AI Ads”)
- Define the rule (e.g. ad name contains “AI”)
- Add more groups with different rules
- Click Apply to use it immediately
- Click Save and Apply if you want to reuse it later
Option 2: Create from Workspace Settings
You can also manage all your breakdowns in one place:
- Click Group by from any report
- Scroll to the Custom Breakdowns section
- Click Manage to open your Workspace Settings
From there:
- Go to the Custom Breakdowns tab
- Click Create Custom Breakdown
- Build your breakdown using the same rules as above
- Save it to make it available in any report or board
Advanced: Using Value Extractors
For teams with structured naming conventions, Superads also offers a Value Extractor.
This lets you define custom logic using SQL-style formulas to extract values from campaign, ad set, or ad names.
- Use it to pull specific values from a naming string
- Ideal for complex naming logic (e.g. “Geo-Product-FunnelStage”)
- Hover over the Value Extractor label in the UI to get a guide on syntax and available parameters
Example:
- Extract everything before the first dash in an ad name
- Extract a region code from the middle of a string
Best Practices
- Be consistent with your naming structure to get the most out of AI suggestions and custom rules
- Use saved breakdowns across multiple reports to keep things standardized
Combine custom breakdowns with other breakdown types (e.g. channel or AI) to go deeper in your analysis
